I decided to write things down because sometimes I don't talk enough.

Rhythm & Soul

Ever since I started really getting into music I have wanted to be able to write songs well. I want to learn a lot of instruments also but if I could just write one song with lyrics that could make someone feel the way I do when I sing along to my favorite songs I would be happy. But I have never been able to come close. I have a few lines that pop into my head every once in a while that I like and actually stick with me but I have never been able to mold them into one. Most of the time I try to write a song it really just turns into a straightforward story. I think part of the reason why it is hard for me is because that’s the way my head organizes my thoughts. I can’t jumble my stories into scattered melodic lines. And then there is the true bane of my song writing excursions, the chorus. I have never thought of a group of lyrics that I think are good enough to be repeated multiple times in a song. I can actually write raps pretty decently but that’s not what I really want to be writing. With raps (for me at least) it’s more rhyming than melody, more surface issues than actual deep down emotions, more of a simple hook than a real chorus. I want a song that I can just belt out in my car. Something that I can listen to that will put me in a specific mood every time. Something that will remind me of a significant time of my life or a feeling or thought that passes through my head often. And I want it to be catchy. Damn it’s hard to think of something catchy.
